On April 8th, we held a demonstration outside the Knesset, protesting the swearing-in of Effi Eitam as a minister and cabinet member. Eitam holds extreme views, while using his religious beliefs as an excuse for racist and prejudiced attitudes towards both Israeli Arabs and Palestinians. Eitam also displays messianic beliefs reminiscent of those held by Meir Kahane. The emphasis of our demonstration was that while the National Religious Party has appointed Eitam as their leader, and he has joined the government, we see his views as dangerous, and we feel that they do not represent Judaism or Religious Zionism in any way. The demonstration was covered by the Israeli Reshet Bet radio and Channel 10 news.

The signs in the background, which did not photograph clearly, say "We don't want a false messiah" and "Religious Zionism is not racism".

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Rabbi Michael Melchior visits the demonstration. The sign contains a quote from an interview with Eitam in the Haaretz newspaper, an English translation of the interview can be found here
